Knit-A-Tit

I came across Titbits through one of Knitty.com’s surprise patterns, and they are so cool! The woman who designed them, Beryl Tsang, was inspired to create her prosthetic titties after losing one of her own to breast cancer. Each Titbit consists of some stuffing surrounded by a handknit casing, complete with nipple (you also have the option of weighting it). Tsang custom makes the bits to order so there are a few different yarn type options. She encourages her customers to be “risqué” and “[t]hink a black glittery one for a late night rendezvous.”

Or you can make your own. My favorite part: when creating the nipple, the knitter has the option of using either a small decorative bead or button, or whipping up a simple I-cord. But if you go the I-cord route, and, says Tsang, you’ve “always wanted a pierced nipple, you could put a small ring or stud in your Tit’s nipple.” I love it!

At the end of her Titbit pattern, Tsang provides knitter’s with one last bit of very helpful advice:

“If you have made a truly original tit bit, and want to show it to others, please do so in the privacy of your own home. I have a friend who used to take her’s out in public all the time. “See my tittie? See? See?” Then she met a cop at her LYS who informed her that what she was doing was technically considered “flashing” and therefore against the law.”

i have been waiting for days to comment on knitted boobs, but your husband was a little slow and now i forgot what i wanted to say.

well, instead i’ll just say that i think that cop is an idiot. legally, i don’t understand how that could be considered “flashing.” i think i’ll go look it up. information we might need to know in the future.
